the path was very steep and muddy
I hadn't ridden a horse since I was about ten years old. And this horse wanted to go everywhere but where it was supposed to go. Sometimes it would walk slowly and then break into a gallop. I got a quick lesson in controlling a horse! There were times when I felt like I would be thrown over the horse's head because of the steep angle we were traveling down the mountain. I asked my guide, "Do people ever fall off the horses?" He replied, "Yes." It is not a path where you could just drive up an ambulance if someone got hurt.
Even though it was a nice day, the horse was often knee deep in mud. It was not a path you could drive on. Many of the ruts were waist deep and filled with water. We forded a stream three times. I was afraid the horse would stumble on all of the stones in the stream but it held its footing well.
